Cafe Hunting in the City

Two weeks ago…

Saturday afternoon in Madrid. It’s winter, but today we’ve been blessed with higher temperatures and sunny skies. Much as I’d love to stay in, and spend a lazy afternoon by the window catching some rays and spying on our human neighbors, I decide to venture out in the city and explore it’s possibilities. My goal is to write and, as I do so, have a cup of tea and sip some freshly squeezed juice from this place I’ve been dying to try. With all that in mind, I persuade good ol’ X to put on her trademark running shoes and join me in this attempt.

Two hours later, I find myself staring at a glorious fridge full of endless, yummy, fresh possibilities. Hummus with chips, rice bowls, salads, sandwiches, pasta, original fruit juice creations (and deserts too!) all seemed to smile at me and be offering a bite. Diurno is exactly like that – tantalizing. Everything they present is hip and cool. From the food, to the drinks and the movie inventory they have available for rent, is appealing to the senses.

I finally decided for a nice cup of English Breakfast, mango-banana juice and a homemade chocolate chip cookie. X joined me a few minutes later and tried some juice and a surprisingly good hummus. Everything was perfect. The atmosphere and the slightly buzzing energy around us were ideal for our productivity plans for the afternoon. That is, until we realized that Diurno hasn’t gotten aboard the free-wifi-for-customers wagon. Sad, really, because then I would’ve found it quite difficult to remove myself from their premises on any given Saturday afternoon.

Til the next time,

The Magnificent Madam Mims

You should! And for your next churros, try Chocolatería San Ginés. They’re great! 🙂
